I, Kevin J. Carleo, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.
~ Oath of Enlistment
About 22 years ago, on 20 April 1993, 4 days after my 18th Birthday, I made a promise. I solemnly swore to “…support and defend The Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;…”.
During my 20 year career, I reaffirmed my oath at all reenlistments (5) and promotions (6) without hesitation or mental reservation.
Even in retirement from the Active ranks of my Marine Corps, and even up until my very last breath, the promise will FOREVER stand – through both my actions and the actions of my Fellow Marines.
I sincerely love my country and its citizens more than most “patriots” can fathom, and I hold our Constitution at the highest regard. I BELIEVE IN THAT DOCUMENT AND THE PEOPLE IT REPRESENTS – SO HELP ME GOD.
