Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for.

~ Zig Ziglar

To ALL of my “subordinate” (personnel of lesser grade) Marines that I take 100 PERCENT personal responsibility for: Regardless of where you are presently serving: If I have ever had the pleasure of actually serving with you, you know what I say about your responsibilities as a leader. Your promotion warrant is not merely a document that affects your promotion. It is a set of instructions, not unlike a Marine Corps Order or Directive, which revalues your commitment as leaders. I challenge you to review it each day and ask yourself, “What am I doing RIGHT NOW to “…carefully discharge the duties of the grade to which appointed…”? You should already know the answer.

Marines, I am YOUR Gunnery Sergeant, and whether I know you or not, I sincerely CARE ABOUT YOU and know your capabilities and the greatness that exists in each one of you. You are my sons and daughters. I embrace the instructions in my promotion warrant, and I will do everything in my power to help you facilitate the goals you set in “YOUR” CORPS. Everything I have accomplished and will accomplish is in part due to your very existence, and I thank you. “All great leaders have one thing in COMMON, they were all once – even greater followers.” COME, FOLLOW ME!!!

To ALL of those Marines senior to me, and who have come before me: You have been a true inspiration, and you know who you are. I have done everything I can to follow your exemplary lead. I strive to carry on the very legacy of Our Marine Corps through this book. Your example is deeply rooted in this book’s every chapter. You have done a tremendous job passing down your Legacy – and I can assure you, your Legacy is in good hands. Semper Fidelis!

To my Dear Mother: You raised me extremely well, and I know you are proud of me. I hear you whispering it into my ear as I type this. Everything I have ever accomplished and will accomplish, everything I have ever loved and will love; is BECAUSE OF YOU. Heaven is once again in possession of one of its most precious Angels. God be with you. I LOVE YOU, MOMMY.

To my brothers and sisters: You molded me into the man I am today. The Marine Corps accepted the product of your efforts throughout my younger years. I know I was difficult at times, but I can only hope you can now look back at those times and see them as the greatest learning experience of all, for it is what we do from this moment on, TOGETHER that truly matters. THANK YOU. I LOVE YOU.

To my wife and children: You have stood by me during the most challenging times of my career. You support me – unconditionally. For that, I thank you. And I know now that my time within the Active Ranks in my United States Marine Corps has ended, you will continue to stand by me – FOREVER.  I look forward to spending the rest of our lives together. “I love you. Those three words have my life in them.” THANK YOU. I LOVE YOU.
